Hello again,

I'm wondering about the security bits.

When should I use roles to control access, say to the blog, and when should I use specific users?

I note that Live Writer already requests the person's username and password when adding a connection. This of course already determines who is connected.. .so I'm confused about the roles and user settings per connection in digMeta.

So, for a given scenario... say I have two bloggers... each with their own blog in a single instance of the DNN blog module, which they have access to by way of a "Blogger" security role... what should I be setting in digMeta for them to have seamless access to their own blogs?

Should I apply access to their specific user accounts, or is the role sufficient?

If I apply by role, then do I still need two connections, one for each blogger, or can I use one connection for both and let Live Writer and digMeta sort it out?

Thanks for any advice on this.

Hi Rob,
digMeta implements it's own security, it doesn't use the existing module security. This was initially done so more than 1 person could blog in the same dnn blog at the same time. We may revisit this in the future. So, in your scenerio, it would be best to just make 2 meta connections for each blog, and just give each 'user' access to their own connection.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,
Just to clarify, in case I've got it wrong...

By 'roles' I mean the "Allowed Roles" option within the digMeta connection settings... not DNN module permissions.

Does that "Allowed Roles" option do anything at all? Because the scenario you're describing as "so more than1 person could blog in the same dnn blog at the same time" is exactly what my scenario is, so long as by one blog you mean one blog module.

I have two bloggers... one Blog module.. each blogger has their own blog in that one single blog module. Take as a similar example the dotnetnuke.com blog which has a lot of bloggers in a single module..

Would one have to create a new connection URL for each blogger there, or is the "Allowed roles" function designed to handle that, as I think you're saying it is.

And if you revisit this roles option, does that mean you might remove it.. I need to set this up so it lasts, so I'm always keen to know if something might change.

Thanks for any further advice on this one

oops... looks like active forums posts twice if one accidentally clicks twice... perhaps a fun game would be to see how many posts one can create in a single go
