Hot or Not is old hat by now, but the style of voting is still very popular on places like Facebook. Basically the person voting is presented with two items, either images and/or text, and they simply have to click one or the other to indicate which they prefer. Sometimes there's an option to skip and move to the next. This is a fun way to have site members rank their favorite whatever... stars, cars, songs (could even have mp3 contest maybe?). The voting doesn't even necessarily finish. There might be options such as notifying the submitters (if there were any) once a week or so of a change in the rank of their item, photo, car etc. This equates to lots of clicks.

I thought hot or not was simply rating 1 image at a time. So, in this model, would you count something like "wins" and "losses"?
Thanks!

That's right, you're correct there. I was actually thinking of the later variation whereby one is presented with two images and one clicks on the preferred one - or there is also usually a 'skip' button in between. I guess it's called "Which is hotter" rather than hot or not. Facebook has these. In my case it's a classic camera site and the intent is to have a list of top classics, maintained by people voting in this manner. Other sites have them for which star, car, bike, whatever, is hotter. The handy thing for admins is it keeps people clicking through lots of page views. It improves on the hot or not in that it removes the need to rate an image and just makes it a choice of two.
