Details: If the content exceeds the summary length it would be nice if we could define some characters or something that would be used to extend the truncated content.

We could define it in the template with News Articles for example but thats only relevant if the content exceeds the characters defined in the summary length. If it's less that the summary the characters are still there.......

Not needed with new summary options in 1.1. You can use an excerpt or split post
